Biography of an artist and his company
After working as a carver in a company in Bogotá, he returned to Pasto where he founded his company MIGUEL DELACRUZ artesanías in June 1995. From the beginning he focused on tamo veneer and began development to find new veneer designs and products with a high quality lathe and carpentry.
The name of Miguel Delacruz is recognized nationally and internationally; its products have been in international exhibitions, such as the one held at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. In the same way, he has worked hand in hand with designers for clients who want to decorate their homes with pieces by Maestro Miguel Delacruz, which has led him to be up to date with international fashion trends that determine colors, textures, shapes and the tissues.
His works always have a historical and creative context as an example to highlight, the Minifundio line, which is an apology for the division of crops in his region; the Caracol line, which is a remembrance of the black and white carnivals in Pasto; the Lava line, which is a recognition of the imposing Galeras volcano; the Sindamanoy line where he reflects all the love for his family and roots; Just to name a few of his works.
His great skill and creativity have earned him countless awards; Among them, being the first Master awarded within the technique with the Master's Medal, awarded in 2006 by Artesanías de Colombia and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism precisely for the development with the technique, its preservation, for the quality of his works and his human qualities, until consecrating himself as the first MASTER OF MASTERS of the tamo veneer technique and one of the few that exist in the Nariño region.
His main work is focused on leaving a legacy full of knowledge and skills with the technique, this is how his workshop becomes a school for his new pupils.
His skills have been extolled in the book Los maestros del arte popular colombiano de suramericana and the book Oficios las artesanías colombianas de Artesanías de Colombia.
Without a doubt, his exploration and inventiveness within the technique has led him to innovate with new materials that, combined with chaff, result in products of immeasurable beauty. This is how we arrived at the LLAXA INTI Line, a name in Quechua that in Spanish means fusion. of metal and the sun.
Among his latest works, it is worth highlighting the successful launch of HILOS DE LA TIERRA, bottles of Blue Label Johnnie Walker whiskey decorated with the design and technique of the master for Colombia in commemoration of Johnnie Walker's 200th anniversary.
